Abstracts on Canvas
Following the initial Pen and Ink series, the artist continued to explore abstraction, though through an entirely different methodology. This new body of work began with a wet process in which each piece was laid flat on the floor and saturated—depending on the medium—with either water or turpentine. Color was then introduced, allowed to dissolve and flow freely, forming organic shapes and tonal variations.
Once dried, additional layers were applied in the same fluid manner. The process often involved multiple iterations, blending oil, acrylic, and ink in succession. Only after the final drying phase would the artist begin the next stage: a slow, observational period in which the composition was studied until latent forms began to emerge.
These forms were then refined through a subtractive technique—painting over surrounding areas to reveal and emphasize the shapes embedded within the accidental flow. The result is a collection of works that marry spontaneity with intention, allowing subconscious forms to surface through layered experimentation.
